The article examines economic diversification as one of the tools for economic development in the northern regions, which are regions whose territories are classified as or equivalent to the Far North. The purpose of the article is to develop and justify a poly-structural dynamic approach to studying the economic diversification of the northern regions of Russia in the context of current socio-economic, natural-geographical, and managerial realities. The study is based on a comprehensive application of general scientific and special methods aimed at a comprehensive analysis of the process of economic diversification in the northern regions. The relevance of the study is due to the lack of a unified approach to studying the process of economic diversification in the territory, particularly in the northern regions. The study identified and systematized the characteristic features of the northern regions that determine the specifics of economic diversification processes, analyzed the role of the government in implementing economic diversification policies in the northern regions, and identified and characterized the key stages of the evolution of economic diversification in the northern regions. The authors developed and proposed an author's poly-structural dynamic approach to studying economic diversification in the northern regions, which considers it from three perspectives: as a specific area of manifestation, a management tool, and a dynamic process. The proposed approach can serve as a methodological basis for strategic planning and the selection of appropriate public policy measures for the socioeconomic development of a territory. The presented approach to studying economic diversification helps to overcome the fragmentation of knowledge about the diversification process and to integrate this knowledge into a unified system, allowing us to see how macroeconomic processes are linked to management decisions and historical context.
